One resource that I found incredibly helpful when exploring different career options is the Strong Interest Inventory assessment. This psychometric tool helped me understand my intrinsic interests and how they align with different career paths. By analysing my preferences, it provided me with specific job roles, industries, and environments that would be a great fit for my personality and skills.

What made it particularly valuable was that it gave me clarity and focus when I was unsure of which direction to take. It highlighted career options I hadn’t considered, and by aligning my career aspirations with my core interests, I felt more confident in making decisions about my future.

As someone who now works in career counseling, I use this tool to help my clients explore their ideal careers, and I’ve seen firsthand how impactful it can be in helping them gain clarity and direction in their career journeys.

Reverse Recruiting Services Offer Personalized Insights

One of the greatest resources I found helpful for exploring career options was to use a “reverse recruiting” service. I first used such a service back in 2016, but I’ve used that type of service a couple of times since then.

I have a very unique background because I’ve worked in six different industries across four countries. Companies don’t see me as the “typical hire”. Working with a reverse recruiter, who is there to focus on the needs of a job seeker, I had someone assisting me with a career direction that made sense while applying to jobs for me and networking on my behalf.

By watching the reactions of companies and people we were dealing with, I was able to get some clarity on the type of career path I should be following. I also got some insights into courses and certifications typically required.

Because reverse recruiters literally job search as a full-time job, they tend to have a better understanding of what’s happening in the job market and how that applies to job seekers. It helps that many of them are former recruiters, who used to work on the other side of the table, looking at applications.

Sparketype Assessment Reveals Energizing Work

One resource that really helped me was taking the Sparketype(r) Assessment. It showed me what kind of work energizes me versus what drains me–even when I’m technically “good” at both. That clarity was a game-changer. It helped me stop chasing roles that looked good on paper but didn’t actually fit who I was. Instead, I started focusing on roles that aligned with how I’m wired to contribute. It made my job search way more focused and way less frustrating.

Informational Interviews Offer Real-World Career Perspectives

One resource that proved incredibly helpful when I was exploring different career options was speaking directly with professionals in the field through informational interviews and shadowing experiences.

As someone who transitioned from teaching into educational psychology, having those honest, real-world conversations gave me clarity that no website or brochure could offer.

Hearing firsthand about the challenges, the emotional rewards, and the day-to-day realities of the role helped me envision whether the path was right for me. It also made the process feel more human and grounded–less about ticking boxes and more about purpose.

That guidance played a huge part in confirming that becoming a child and educational psychologist was not just a good fit for my skills, but a meaningful way to make a difference.

Course Tailors Career Guidance for Neurodivergent Individuals

I recommend the “UNLOCK YOUR CAREER PATH: A Course for Neurodivergent Adults and Teens” course book.

This course was specifically written to help explore career options and break down one’s true “must-haves” in any future career or job.

It promotes building a foundation for developing options and roles that are the best possible fit for your brain-wiring and fulfillment while leading to sustainability. The course is step-by-step, physically ADHD-friendly, and truly engaging beyond anything currently available.
