Leverage Creative Platforms: Depending on your skills, platforms like Threads can be great for running challenges to showcase your work and engage with a broader audience.

Don’t sleep on business travel — literally. Snoozing on a plane or resting at the airport gate is a waste of a great marketing opportunity. Executive class seating and frequent flyer lounges are a great place to meet potential clients and associates.

I like to dress the part. Yes, it can be tempting to fly in sweats, but put in a little effort instead. Wearing a suit lets people know you have somewhere important to be after landing. They’ll take notice of you.

Make small talk before introducing yourself. It will seem more natural when you segue into what you do.

Asking the right questions is also important. Getting a feel for their work is as important as promoting yourself, because that information will shape your connection.

One caveat: Don’t monopolize a single person. Keep moving and let conversations end naturally. The last thing you want is to come off as overly persistent. Once you’ve made a solid link, hand them your business card and bid adieu.


Share Your Creative Journey

In my opinion, nothing connects people more to a brand than feeling that they have been a part of your journey. So, to maintain authenticity, they should share their creative journey with their audience. Documenting and sharing how their work has changed with time provides a personal touch that they can connect to.

There are several ways to go about it. One of them could be revealing behind-the-scenes of the creative process. You could talk about things such as inspirations, difficulties, and how you overcame them.

You could also share your diverse interests and tastes and how you developed them. People are drawn to stories of growth and passion, helping to create a brand more relatable and engaging.


Meaningful Growth

Professional visibility isn’t just about being seen, it’s about being remembered. First, find your unique value proposition. What makes your view, experience, or approach uniquely valuable? This becomes your narrative cornerstone. Digital presence should be deliberately curated, not merely accumulated. Every LinkedIn post, conference presentation, and interaction should show your expertise. They should also add value to your network. Think of it as leaving intellectual breadcrumbs that lead back to your expertise.


The most effective self-promotion often doesn’t feel like promotion at all. Instead of broadcasting achievements, focus on sharing insights that demonstrate your expertise. Write about solving real problems. Share lessons from failures. Offer value to your professional community. This creates “magnetic authority”. People are drawn to your content because it helps them grow.


Loads of people absolutely hate being on camera and that’s fine. If it’s not your thing then don’t force yourself to create video content. There are so many other options, but make sure you create content with purpose. Your opinion, your predictions, your ideas. White papers, LinkedIn posts, TikTok how-to’s, podcast interviews.

Try different things for a minimum of a few months and see what feels right for you. If any interviewer or an agency can easily find content that you’ve created, it is far more powerful than a CV, and sharing your views positions you as a credible thought leader. The long game here is to boost your visibility online and create a following – making you more visible to employers and prospects.
